Kritagyata Trust’s Seed Ball Campaign Mobilizes Volunteers for Reforestation and Eco-Restoration

Restoring Green Cover: Community Seed Bombing Drive at Gedare Hills, Gauribidanur

Prakruthi Environmental Initiative • Kritagyata Trust

In an inspiring act of community-driven environmental action, Kritagyata Trust organized a Seed Bombing drive at Gedare Hills (Gadere Betta) in Gauribidanur, bringing together dedicated volunteers to help restore native green cover in the region.

What Is Seed Bombing?

Seed Bombing is a natural, low-intervention method of afforestation that restores plant life without disturbing topsoil. Small spheres crafted from clay, organic compost, and native seeds are dispersed across degraded terrain. When monsoon rains arrive, the seed balls break down and germinate, giving native saplings a strong start to thrive.

This technique is well-suited for rocky hillsides and remote landscapes where manual sapling planting is challenging.

Volunteers Leading Grassroots Conservation

The drive saw passionate participation from students, environmentalists, local residents, and CSR partners alongside our volunteers. Coming together in the early morning hours, the team collaborated to:

  • Handcraft seed balls using local clay, nutrient-rich compost, and indigenous seed varieties.
  • Trek across identified barren zones across Gedare village in Gauribidanur taluk, Chikkaballapura district.
  • Disperse hundreds of seed balls across slopes in need of reforestation.

Why Gedare Hills?

Gedare Hills (Gadere Betta) is known for its biodiversity, medicinal plants, and scenic trekking paths in Chikkaballapura district. In recent years, parts of the hill range have experienced vegetation loss due to seasonal changes and human pressure.

Through this focused seed bombing drive, Kritagyata Trust aims to:

  • Accelerate Reforestation: Reintroduce native flora across barren hill patches.
  • Improve Soil Moisture: Prevent rainwater runoff and topsoil erosion along hill tracks.
  • Protect Native Species: Encourage drought-resilient shrubs and trees to flourish.
  • Engage Communities: Build hands-on environmental stewardship among local youth and volunteers.

A Step Towards a Greener Tomorrow

This drive is part of Kritagyata Trust’s wider mission to drive sustainable, community-backed green campaigns. Every seed ball dispersed is a practical step toward restoring our natural ecosystem and building a healthier environment for future generations.
